Cutting fire wood is not cheap, the gas prices have everything up. Do some checking for local sawmills near you.
 Sawmills create massive amounts of scrap wood. Short parts off ends of cross ties and large lumber timbers and boards. Many places will give it away free, or just charge like loader bucket full for 5 bucks. And their loader bucket is large, not a toy.
 If you offer 1st to pay, many times they Will let you have it free i have found. Also many sawmills are not always on the web, so a Google search will not always work. Check with a feed old timers and small sawmill owners. Once you find where they are sawing, you will have life time supply of fire wood and BBQ wood.

Where to live Off grid * facts and fiction

Living Off gride requires a few things. Solar needs lots of sun and wind generators need wind. If you live down south, you have lots of sun, but summer temps get in 100s for 2 to 3 months. Hot temps equals lots of A/C running which equals 4 to 5 times larger off gride system.  Wind power is good, only if you have wind. A breeze will not make power.  High Winds will. Solar i best bang for the buck. Make sure you get real good panels. Cheap china solar panels when we tested them only made 70% power. So the cheaper prices are not so cheap. you still must buy more to get same power. Also the china panels we tested in hot summer quit making power because of over heating. we sprayed water on them to cool them, then they made more power. But who want to stay out side all summer squirting water on them all day. Do your home work.
